What is Bhastrika pranayam?

 

 

Bhastrika Pranayama is one of the main forms of Pranayama. In Sanskrit, Bhastrika means the ‘bellows ’.Like the blacksmith blows his bellows to create heat and purify iron, Bhastrika is said to purify the mind and clear all blockages. It is a breathing technique where breathing is forcible and through the nose, with equal time for inhalation and exhalation.

 

 

How to do Bhastrika pranayam?

 

 

1.    Sit in any steady asana. Padmasana, Siddhasana and Vajrasana are ideal for the practice.

2.    Keep the body erect and close the mouth

3.    Start with deeply breathe in and slowly breathe out through nose continue this process for at least 5-7 minutes.

4.    It can be increased over a period of time.
